Explain that you will no longer eat any type of non- seafood proteins, including beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb and venison, as well as any products made form these foods, such as broths and gravies. Decide how the household wants to handle your new diet plan. Go through your cupboards and refrigerator and remove foods containing meat ingredients. Some foods are obviously meat but, read labels of all foods in your home, such as soups, canned items, snack foods and frozen meals, to see if any meat- based ingredients are included. Ingredients such as broth, gravy or a meat flavoring are commonly made from animal products. Gelatin, used to thicken many foods, and some rennet found in cheese are also animal- based ingredients. If you choose to avoid dairy, you'll also want to look for any form of milk, cream, cheese, yogurt, whey and casein. Instead of throwing the food containing meat away, give the non- perishable items to a food bank and any other items to a family member, friend or neighbor. Prepare meals at home that are vegetarian or based around seafood. Try new recipes such as vegetarian soups, chili, stir fries, curries, burritos and salads. Use fish to make fish tacos, fish sandwiches, seafood stews, or simply season and grill or bake fish as an entree. Include beans, nuts and seeds as good sources of vegetarian protein on days when you don't eat seafood. Some pescatarians include dairy products and eggs in their diet, while others choose not to. Communicate clearly with servers or hosts when eating out of the home. Let them know that you do eat seafood, but no animal products. Many restaurants prepare fish using chicken or meat broth or may put animal products in seafood soups, stews and chowders. When in doubt, order a vegetarian meal or pass on a dish you are unsure about. Tip. Making a large lifestyle change, such as moving from a meat- based to a pescatarian diet, may take some time to adjust to. If you slip up and eat an animal product by accident or in a moment of temptation, don't be too hard on yourself. According to the American Psychological Association, these minor setbacks are normal in the beginning and won't prevent you from reaching your goal, as long you get back on track. Warning.
